The opening matches for our Brand Putter and Senior Friendship League teams took place last night with the BP team away to Haggs Castle and our Senior team hosting Haggs at Fereneze.
Brand Putter Team
The title defence started with a 5.5-2.5 defeat although that could easily have been a 4-4 draw, Richie Elrick succumbing to a strong finish from his opponent to lose by 1 hole and similarly Calum McLelland’s opponent, the veteran campaigner John Laurie, birdieing the last to deny Calum a point. Scott Turnbull held his nerve holing a 4 foot putt at the last for a 1 hole victory over Haggs Vice Captain and team selector Craig Morrison. The other point coming from Davie Miller who won 5&4 against David Lamond. David is son of Haggs honorary member Gus Lamond that many including Davie will have played against 15+ years go.
Senior Friendship Team
The opposite is true for our Senior Friendship League team who got off to a 2-1 winning start. Captain Stevie Richardson leading the team and partnering Hislop Dickson to a 4&3 win. John Duncan and Willie Elliott triumphed 7&6 with Bernard Airlie and Tommy D’Allesandro on the end of a 3&2 reverse. Well done gents.
Junior Team
Our Fleming Watson team continue their campaign tonight at Cowglen.
