Past Captain Ian McArthur inspired his County Cup squad (and it’s very much a team effort) to a title defence this year, making their own bit of Fereneze history, becoming the first squad to retain the trophy.
Playing at Cochrane Castle against fellow Brand Putter club Williamwood the team of Simon Leonard, Gary Easdon, Frank Dynes, Graeme Lester and Lachie Cunningham triumphed due to holes won after a dramatic 2.5-2.5 draw. Ironically the team also won the same way last year so not only are the wins vital but the size of the wins are crucial too.
It’s got some of the Renfrewshire Golf Union executive commenting that our course rating must be too low i.e. our team get more shots at most other courses. Renfrewshire’s toughest course anyone??
And it’s not just this repeat success that has them saying it we’ve also won the below this year at county level.
- County Boys Strokeplay Championship
- County Youths Strokeplay Championship
- County Handicap 6-12 Championship
- County Handicap 13+ Championship
It’s often been said, if you can play good golf at Fereneze, you can play good golf anywhere and our success over the last few years means there’s probably more than a grain of truth in that.
