Latest match report for the juniors.
Back to back wins and another hole in one!
Fereneze welcomed Cathcart Castle for the latest Fleming Watson fixture on Sunday afternoon. With similar records so far, it promised to be a close run affair.
In the top match, Ashton McKechan watched his opponent nearly drive the 1st with a 5 wood, however he was never in any danger and wound up a comfortable winner. In the second match Zak McArthur was not at his best, his struggles off the tee meant it was always going to be a tough ask and his opponent levelled the overall match 1-1. Highlight of the match was to come in the 4th match, courtesy of Ryan Jackson making his 1st appearance of the year. A perfectly struck 9 iron at the 4th hole giving Ryan his first ever hole in one! Ryan’s good golf continued and he also won comfortably. In the 5th match, James Clark was battling hard to stay in the match but his opponent was having a great day on the greens, successive 20ft putts holed on 8 and 9 were enough to give him control of the match which he never gave up and the match tied again at 2-2. In the last match, Evan McGill again played solidly and like Ashton and Ryan ran out a comfortable winner to ensure at least a draw overall. 3-2. The final game on the course fittingly went all the way to the last as it had been nip and tuck all the way. Standing on the 16th tee one down and with both teams watching on, Aaron McGuire knew that the overall result was dependent on his game. With his opponent just missing his par attempt, Aaron had about 5 feet left to level the match which he duly took, just having enough pace to drop in. On the 17th, Aaron sensibly took iron of the tee and found the fairway while his opponent took wood and found the left hand rough and a nasty lie. That course management proved the difference and Aaron had 2 putts from 10 feet to go dormie and guarantee at least a halve point, which he did when he holed on the first attempt. A mistake on the last from Aaron cost him as he was unable to get up and down and his opponent made a regulation par to deservedly halve the match with the overall score 3.5 – 2.5 to Fereneze.
In the reserve matches, 3 of the younger players were making their debuts. All were receiving a few shots but playing against much older players. All 3 of Aidan McGuire, Drew Lang and Callan McGuire played great golf (the comments from their opponents “they just kept hitting it straight”) testament to that and they all won their matches that were played over 12 holes. Well done boys and well done Ryan on your hole in one!

Registering for Match Play Events
Below are the 2 forms to register for the Harelaw Shield which is our handicap knockout event and we’re also re-introducing a pairs knockout competition. We’ve yet to decide if it’ll be a foursomes (alternate shot) or fourball.
Juvenile/Flag Tees

We’ve reintroduced permanent markers for the kids just starting out and for our flag championships. These are generally about 150 yards out from each green with a few exceptions being a bit closer to make the 1st or 2nd shots a little easier. I’m hoping to get a course rating so they can play from there and get a handicap as well. I’ll advise once I know more but I’d encourage you to get your kids out there and playing from these, supervised of course and probably best later in the evenings.
Junior Sixes
Junior Sixes Preferred Days and National Open
As you’re aware we’re part of a Junior Sixes League again this year and I’m looking to find the best day/date for us to host out match.
Scottish Golf are also hosting their first ever National Open inviting all the clubs in the leagues across the country to 1 of 3 days at Blairgowrie Golf Club from Wednesday 6th August til Friday 8th August between 9-5. I have expressed interest and have between now and Monday 7th July to change our decision depending on the level of interest. At this stage I don’t know how many players go from each club so this is just a sense check at this stage.
Can you please complete the form below offering me your preferred option on the league match and if your child/children could make any of the days at Blairgowrie (that you know of now). Once we know more we can think about transportation/logistics etc.
